Steven L. Winer

Director, Corporate Department

Steve is a business lawyer who assists clients with financing, the buying and selling of businesses, and the negotiation and implementation of commercial contracts, leases, intellectual property agreements, and other business arrangements. He has significant experience in the hospitality industry, helping clients with acquisitions, franchise issues, financings, and operational matters.

Steve also has a particular expertise in advising individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations on employment matters. He helps clients deal with issues that stem from the employment relationship, such as hirings and terminations, contracts, competition restrictions, wage and hour and compensation questions, protection of confidential and proprietary information and intellectual property, employment investigations and disputes, personnel policies, and human resources risk management.

In this era of legal specialization, Steve’s broad professional experience is perhaps a throwback. Early in his career he was as an Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Bureau of the New Hampshire Department of Justice, trying homicide cases before juries and arguing appeals to the New Hampshire Supreme Court. He moved from life as a prosecutor to the private sector, where he mostly handled civil litigation. Eventually he transitioned to becoming a legal advisor in a wide variety of business and organizational matters. Steve believes his years as a prosecutor and in private practice, dealing with disputes that ended up being contested in court, have provided him with important perspective as he counsels his current clients.

Steve enjoys golfing, skiing, and cycling, all with enthusiasm if not expert proficiency. He is an avid reader and a long-time member of Concord’s South End Auxiliary Book Club. He and his wife Margaret love to travel and to be with their children and grandchildren.
