Legal Breakfast Series – Revised Form I-9 and Employment Eligibility Verification Compliance

Attorneys Julie Morse and Juliaana Digesu will be the featured speakers during the latest Orr & Reno Legal Breakfast Series on Tuesday, October 17 at the Orr & Reno offices at 45 South Main Street in Concord.

The presentation will discuss I-9 compliance and address the question of whether you can pass an I-9 Audit.  Recent administrative actions by the President are expected to increase the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) audits to nearly 3,000, which is triple the numbers from recent years.  Combining the expected increase in worksite audit activity with the authorization to hire 10,000 additional ICE agents, the administration is showing a renewed focus on enforcement.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services released a revised version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification on July 17, 2017.  As of September 18th, employers may only use this revised version and must continue following the existing storage and retention rule for any previously completed Form I-9.  Joining attorneys Morse and DiGesu for the discussion will be Orr & Reno immigration paralegals Robin Vermette and Paula Violo.

The event starts at 8 a.m. and is free to the public, but pre-registration is required. Coffee and light breakfast will be served.
