William L. Chapman Honored with Bill of Rights Awards

Orr & Reno attorney William L. Chapman was recently honored by the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of New Hampshire with its Bill of Rights Award for his extraordinary efforts defending civil rights in New Hampshire.

Chapman was honored during the 29thannual Bill of Rights Awards dinner on Sunday, October 4 at the Puritan Conference Center in Manchester.

The ACLU Foundation of New Hampshire presents the award to individuals, groups and organizations in the “promotion of civil rights in New Hampshire, including in the courts, the legislature and other public forums. Our awardees have an unwavering resolve to protect the freedoms guaranteed under the United States Bill of Rights.”

Chapman has been practicing law at Orr & Reno for more than 40 years. He was recently selected to the Best Lawyers in America list for the 25thtime in the practice areas of appellate practice, litigation and First Amendment law. He has earned a national reputation as a leading attorney on First Amendment rights.

Chapman has served as counsel for the press in many significant First Amendment cases in New Hampshire and is a past recipient of the Nackey Loeb First Amendment Award. He serves on the NH Supreme Court’s Committee on the Judiciary and the Media, and has also served as a faculty member at libel and privacy seminars sponsored by the American Newspaper Publisher Association, the NE Press Association and the NH Bar Association.
