Based on his 50-year membership in the Bar, most of which was spent representing hospitals and large physician group practices, Neil shares his experience and thoughts on strategy with other lawyers in the firm. He served on the Management Committee of three law firms each of which had a regional practice. This business experience has enriched Neil’s advice to colleagues and clients in terms of finding practical solutions to their problems.

Notable cases

While representing more than 15 of NH’s 24 hospitals, Neil advised on mergers, affiliations, compliance matters, professional staff relations, Certificate of Need projects, governance issues, regulatory issues and advice to the Senior Executives and Board Officers. Notable cases include:

• Obtaining the largest Certificate of Need awarded in NH history
• Buying and then selling Matthew Thornton Health Plan
• Leading the professional services lease affiliations between physicians and hospitals in four NH communities
• Shaping the bylaws and setting strategic direction of a physician group practice with more than 1,000 doctors
• Buying, selling and foreclosing three NH paper mills
• Assisting owners who conveyed conservation easements covering nearly 30,000 acres in NH
• Leading the successful defense of a federal compliance investigation initiated by a whistleblower against a NH health care system
• Representing a client in the buying and selling of several NH and VT newspapers
• Leading the reorganization efforts of hospitals, physician practices, home health agencies, special needs hospitals and community charities, and all incidental matters related to the foregoing

Hobbies

Neil volunteers at the Ledyard Charter School which is an alternative education high school in Lebanon, NH and with the Crossroads Project, providing counseling and teaching services to inmates of the Grafton County (NH) Prison. He also has a shoe shining service during the Spring and Fall, the proceeds of which benefit a local charity.
