Lisa supports clients in health care, complex commercial litigation, and personal injury litigation including medical malpractice defense, products liability, and intellectual property. She also assists creditors in Bankruptcy proceedings. She specializes in advising health care organizations on a variety of daily legal questions including Medicare/Medicaid, Stark and fraud/abuse compliance, EMTALA, HIPAA and HITECH Acts, quality assurance, and consent issues.
Past Experience
Lisa majored in engineering at Dartmouth, and uses the same systematic approach to solving legal problems that she learned for effectively approaching engineering problems. This background has also allowed her to more easily grasp the scientific and technical subject matter involved in many intellectual property and products liability cases to more effectively develop theories for claims or defenses, engage in technical expert discovery, and then present technical subjects at trial. She has also effectively used “paperless” trial technology to enhance her clients’ presentation of evidence to the jury.
Notable cases
- 2002 Langlois v. Tillotson Healthcare Corp., et al and Borrazas v. Tillotson Healthcare Corp. –lead defense counsel in these consolidated, multi-defendant latex glove allergy product liability cases which were the 5th and 6th test cases tried nationally out of approximately 4000 similar cases. Shortly after the defense verdicts in these two cases, which were upheld on appeal, Lisa’s client was dropped from the balance of the cases nationally.
- 2007-2011 Chase Home, et al v. Department of Health and Human Services – Obtained three successful NH Supreme Court Appeals on behalf of seven residential child care providers during the life of this case resulted in a $3.55 million verdict for the State’s failure to pay appropriate rates for the care of children in placement.
- 2014 – Coach, Inc., et al v. Sapatis –Successfully defended a flea market operator against claims that he allowed counterfeiters to sell knock off Coach products at the Londonderry Flea Market.
