Attorney Smith Moderates NH Energy Summit

Orr & Reno’s Maureen Smith served as moderator during the annual NH Energy Summit held in Concord, NH on October 10. This year’s summit explored the impacts of the Massachusetts Clean Power RFP and how it will affect the energy landscape in the Granite State.

The New Hampshire Energy Summit is organized by the Dupont Group, a Concord-based government and public affairs company with a background in energy policy, in conjunction with several member organizations of the New Hampshire Independent Energy Council (NHIEC), a group of major NH-based energy generators and suppliers dedicated to informing state policy and supporting competitive electric markets.

According to Jim Monahan, Managing Partner of The Dupont Group, “Many have said that the real test of Northern Pass or any of the proposed large scale transmission projects being proposed in northern New England is weather the projects can find funding to support the cost of the projects. The Massachusetts RFP is seen as the key to the economics of Northern Pass, but the project has a lot of competition.”

In addition to the transmission project discussion, the Summit also included a presentation on New Hampshire’s Energy Policy in 2018. This presentation, moderated by Smith, featured NH State Senator Jeb Bradley, recently appointed Commissioner of the Department of Business and Economic Affairs Taylor Caswell, consumer advocate Don Kreis, and Michael Behrmann, Director of the NH Clean Tech Council.

As a member of Orr & Reno’s Environmental and Energy practice groups, Smith represents business and individual clients in a broad range of environmental matters spanning air, water, wetlands, shoreland and waste issues as well as energy project developers and utilities in siting and environmental permitting and compliance issues.
