Attorney Eber Addresses City Year NH Volunteers
Dec 06, 2018Attorney Jennifer Eber, who helped author the New Hampshire Bar Association’s (NHBA) Beyond High School: A Guide to Your Rights and Responsibilities, spoke to a group of City Year NH volunteers on November 30, 2018.
Volunteers were each given a copy of the Beyond High School book and participated in a workshop designed to empower young people to both know their own rights and responsibilities and to better help the students that they teach. Robin Knippers, Law Related Education Coordinator for the NHBA helped with the presentation. The Beyond High School book was distributed to NH high school graduates in the spring.
During the workshop, Jennifer presented hypothetical situations to the City Year group such as how to avoid pitfalls in a job interview, pointers on renting an apartment, serving on jury duty, and collecting unemployment compensation. Additionally, she examined other topics focusing on consumer protection, credit, privacy issues, medical insurance, and taxes.
A member of the AmeriCorps national service network, City Year is an education nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students and schools succeed. The organization partners with public schools in 29 high-need communities across the U.S. including Manchester, NH where volunteers, ages 18-24, act as role models, work closely with teachers to identify learning gaps and provide one-on-one tutoring to students in 8 Manchester public schools.
